Your Rights as a Union Member

The Campaign to Elect Russ Blunden UFCW Local 951 President knows you, the members, want to be heard and have a say in your union. But the current Local 951 leadership doesn’t want that. And to keep your voices silent, Local 951 has slowly and carefully stopped the flow of important information to its members. Do you know your rights as a union member? Do you know your rights under the UFCW Local 951 Constitution? If you don’t, it’s because the union leadership doesn’t want you to know. Because if you know you’re rights, then you would expect Local 951 to honor them and let your voice be heard. Local 951 doesn’t want that either. Below, we have compiled a brief outline of your rights as a union member. The Campaign to Elect Russ Blunden knows that informed members are strong members, and strong members are exactly what this union needs. We need members who know and exercise the rights they have. We want members who want to be members. The Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) guarantees certain rights to union members. The Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) enforces several LMRDA provisions while other provisions, such as the bill of rights, can only be enforced if union members file a private suit in federal court. Your Rights

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, union members have:
Also, the LMRDA prohibits against certain discipline. For example, a union or any of its officials may not fine, expel or otherwise discipline a member for exercising any LMRDA right. And no person may use or threaten to use force or violence to interfere with a union member in the exercise of LMRDA rights. The Campaign to Elect Russ Blunden knows the importance of democracy and education to create an effective, pro-member union. We want the membership to know its rights and exercise them freely. It is only when we, as a union, come together and support one another that we can achieve our goals and control our future.
